Amazon continues its foray into e-book. Having started in publishing, now the retail giant wants to compete with the online library.
The U.S. company launched Thursday an overseas virtual library full of books 5000. As Amazon explains on its website, it is intended for Kindle owners (all generations) who subscribed to a subscription premium. So far, this subscription which costs $ 79 per year allowed consumers to benefit from free delivery and watch streaming movies and series indefinitely.
Those who own the unit and pay Amazon for this offer can therefore now borrow books, or rather to begin. Because the loan is limited to one book per month. However, there is no deadline for the return e-book. Via another e-book, the previous loan will be automatically removed from the Kindle. Among the titles offered by Amazon at the moment are fairly recent books include ranked in the top of the 100 New York Times best sellers.
Large publishers are worried about sales of e-book
"We expect three immediate results: Kindle owners read more, revenues will grow publishers and the authors will get more checks for their copyrights," said Russ Grandinetti, vice president of content Kindle.
However, the Wall Street Journal points out that none of the six major American publishing houses (Random House, HarperColllins, Penguin, Macmillan, Simon & Schuster and Hachette), anxious to see sales of e-books will reduce the benefit of loans, do not participate in this adventure. If the economic model of the project raises questions, Amazon has assured that the copyright would be paid to publishers for book rentals.
In April, Amazon had a deal with 11,000 U.S. libraries so that they offer Kindle e-books on loan. This is the giant e-commerce to encourage consumers to buy its reader. For the same reason, e-books that Amazon sells or lends can not be played on smartphones, tablets (even with applications) or PC, but only on Kindle.
